A unique opportunity for the community in the form of an educational collaborative effort between And I Stand and Winn Publications is set to make a positive impact! Founder and Publisher, Arilia Winn of Winn Publications LLC. and Founder and Executive Director, Dr. Jayco McCowan of And I Stand has officially developed an virtual educational writing program titled, Writing with Miss Winn: Coping with Trauma Through Expressive Writing. This program is slated to take place February 2021.
In a 2018 National Alliance on Mental Health article written by Steven Swink, he noted, “decades of research have suggested that expressive writing cab help improve mood, increase psychological well-being, reduce depressive symptoms, decrease PTSD avoidance symptoms, reduce days spent in a hospital and improve immune system functioning (to name a few).” Specifically speaking, expressive writing is a coping mechanism that allow individuals to explore and express emotions and feelings through writing. In addition, it allows one to reflect on experiences and provide a creative outlet to address challenges.
To support survivors of traumatic challenges in their journey of healing centered around the following: mental health, domestic violence, sexual assault, rape, alcohol abuse and drug abuse etc.; And I Stand and Winn Publications LLC decided to provide an outlet to help survivors from diverse backgrounds turn their challenges into testimonies through expressive writing. The official registration period for Writing with Miss Winn: Coping with Trauma Through Expressive Writing is set for 02/01/21-02/10/21 with limiting seating.
